Former Marine Corps Sargent Mike Boyce – who served as Cobb County’s Board of Commissioners Chairman the past 4 years – passed away early this year. And, CEO Len Pagano – who worked with Chairman Boyce – memorialized his support to grow Safe America’s ‘VET Tran’ program. In 2021, Mr. Boyce noted that COVID-19 has thwarted getting veterans to medical care – and noted that without public transit, many veterans won’t be able to get to doctors. But, he encouraged Safe America to re-launch VET Tran in 2022. And, shared his commitment to gain other support.

“I’m proud of the project Safe America started in 2019 and look forward to helping re-launch it,” Boyce said in 2021. “Safe America is helping address a significant problem that we all need to help with – and I’ll look to grow more supporters.”

Safe America CEO Len Pagano remembers how Mr. Boyce was a good veteran as well as a good community leader. “Mike knew how it’s tough for veterans to get VA appointments – whether in a hospital or a clinic,” Pagano said. “With Mike’s sharing advice, we moved forward to get veterans helped quickly.”

Pagano also thanked Knights of Columbus for their support. He noted that Senior Vice President Mark McMullen is volunteering advice on getting a pilot project launched in Georgia that can be replicated in other states. Pagano also thanked Cesar Rodriguez, Chris McHugh, Robert Cook, Dan Carfang and Roger Heil for volunteering wihtin St. Joseph’s Parish and Transfiguration.

“Thanks to COVID’s demise, we’re moving forward now,” Pagano observed. “Our goal is to get this off-the-ground this summer – and as we do, we’ll find hundreds of disabled and homeless veterans who will appreciate getting a ride to physicians.”

Pagano also thanked Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority and its Chief Operations Officer Dr. Joshua Murfree for his support. Dr. Murfree offered his support to broaden the ‘transportation system’ – from the Southside of Atlanta (near the Airport) to northern suburbs.

“Thanks to Dr. Murfree and others like our former Chairman Jeff Turner and Clayton County Police Chief Kevin Roberts, we’re moving forward,” noted Pagano. “We look forward to inviting more firms to invest in VET Tran – helping serve those courageous military sailors and soldiers who protected America worldwide.”
